Addicted to What???

Nicotine??? So far have fought that one successfully for two years--still feel like a smoker though------ Alcohol??? --no,, can live happily without booze--- Drugs?? NO, can't even swallow a pill without having it crushed!!
Would you believe I can't resist buying COOKBOOKS? and everytime I go to school,,, sure enough the salesman has left a new supply, tempting me, beckoning me to buy---- saying "This might just be the one that will turn you into a bonafide gourmet cook!" "I'm the book you can't live without!! BUY ME,, BUY ME!!"

I have shelves of cookbooks with thousands of virgin recipes-- so much uncharted territory,,, and still,,, I cook the same things over and over-- Kraft Dinner, Shepherd's Pie, Goulash---and now that the nest is empty,,, cooking has become a rare occurrence!! I even have four cookbooks on my bedside table--Yes, I READ them at night---- always thinking that just maybe, tomorrow will be the day!!

You should see my exercise video/cd collection--and all the fitness equipment! (in the barn)

Yikes! I can sympathize, though - my addiction is home decorating books and magazines. I have spent shameful amounts of money, and have yet to actually decorate a darned thing. I can't help myself though - I see a new book or magazine and I absolutely must have it. I don't understand this compulsion at all, but I figure it could be worse... I could be addicted to actual redecorating!

Maybe there is a "compulsion" gene,, but you've made me feel a whole lot better--I never thought about how much money I'm saving by not actually cooking all those tempting recipes!! thanks mikki

E-bay has just recently started to attack me too... I just start surfing something I THINK I need and then suddenly I have purchased new sneakers(despite my closest full of perfectly good ones), a 6 foot wide kite (which was all I was actually looking for) and a Carmen Electra workout video (as IF I'll even keep up?! haha!)....

I better go... another E-bay auction is about to finish for a small lantern...

You read cookbooks at night! HAHAHAHAHA. That's a first Nan darling.

I cannot, for the love of anything, follow a recipe. I hate the idea of doing that. it somehow feels like it defeats the purpose and joy of cooking. But then I rarely ever cook, so.

But you're clearly a fantastic cook. So pull out the recipes for anything that involves fish or cottage cheese. For when I come a-visiting.

I knew about Mikki's decorating books, most of which are still in pristine condition. But cookbooks! Ewwww..even the thought of cookbooks makes me want to go to bed and pull the covers over my head. Strangely enough though, your diet is much like mine..I still love Kraft Dinner, Goulash, and Shepherd's Pie. With the occasional Spaghetti Dinner thrown in. All of which Jim cooks!
Love, Marsh

Musings-- maybe it's a retired teacher thing-- do you still find yourself saying "shhh" a lot?

Hmmm.... shhhh? No, I guess I haven't said that since our house is pretty quiet with just my husband puttering around the house. When my granddaughter is around, we're just wanting her to talk. She's 16 months old and still hasn't said a word with true meaning! Sigh. By the way, how DO you make Shepards Pie? I tried it with the cookbook and it wasn't much good. Sigh...sigh...

Would you believe I don't follow a recipe for Shepherds Pie-- just a layer of brouwned ground beef on bottowm,, creamed corn in middle, mashed potatoes on top- with grated cheese-- baked in oven!
