Of Kids and Dogs
Busy Day--Fireguy just left-- he arrived a few minutes after we returned from our bikeride to Traveling Man's--phew-- cleaned out the trailer finally--and best of all, had lunch with G and C--- Felt a little apprehensive before the dinner, thinking that maybe the nether blog world was meant not to intersect with the real world and that somehow the magic would diminish---but we had a great time and I thank G for planning (and paying for) it, and C for joining us---- Lots of laughs---
Back to Keji, and AA--after Austin, it all changed-- yes, the activity level was off the richter scale- up with the warbling birds, and go-go - go- all day--biking, walking, finding playgrounds, beaches, soccer, and golf~~~ But the biggest change---- a whole new world of smiles, laughter, and conversation--- the same people we had been passing by the previous week, on the way to the bathrooms, on trails, playgrounds, and beaches- you know how you wonder if you should say hi or look down, trying to detect subtle body language as to whether you should speak-----the same people suddenly seemed friendlier, engaging in conversations, smiling at us with Austin--- no uncertainty anymore-- the world was a happier place--- or was it us projecting our happiness, making ourselves more hospitable with the help of that little hand in ours--- And then the dogs--- same effect--- all social barriers removed-- instant connections, no inhibitions---- and I couldn't help but think how wonderful it would be if we could all hold on to that mystical feeling of holding a little hand when we interact with others.

Thats sweet , I am glad that you both had a good time with Austin . It is true , when he is with you it makes the world seam like such a happier place.
Where did you guys have lunch and who took the picture? Neet post - glad things went so well at the park.
Didn't take you long to get your post up - but you always did have a great deal of creativity...
fireguy: We ate at that little cafe across from the YMCA- not sure what it's name is-- we asked the waitress--
mandy: I wouldn't want to be in a world without Austin--- he is my heart!! Thank you!!
Great family fun, Nan! =)
We might be taking a vacation ourselves in a few weeks. D just asked me if I could take him on a fishing trip.
Hi HB-- Vacations are the making memory times of our lives-- can't wait to hear all about your adventures!!
So, I guess the key to what you learned is to always imagine the way you feel as you walk around with your grandchild- Imagine the wonder, curiosity and intrigue that he has and instills in you as you meet other people on the street, at Sobeys or around the lake... Even if Aussie isn't with you at the moment, apporach people with the openess you feel when he is around... I think that others (even strangers) might be robbed of the gift of getting to know us, due to our "adult-like", jaded and apprehensive exteriours... Just some thoughts that popped in my head from your writing...
So, the real question is, how were the communal bathrooms!! LOL (with questions like that are you really gonna miss me? hehehe)
Now g-- I'm working up the courage to talk about those communal lous--didn't want to descend to steeply!!!!! ;)
You are absolutely right about the difference in people when you are holding a child's hand or carrying a baby. In the mall, while waiting for Mikki to get her hair cut one day, I was holding Caitlyn, who was sleeping sweetly, or when awake contentedly sucking on her soother. Every person, from the very young to the very old stopped and talked to me and asked her age and told me how beautiful she was. And they were all smiling as they walked away..it is so amazing!
Now I can't wait to hear the "bathroom facilities" because, if you remember, I got locked into one once! EWWWWWWWWWWWW!
For real cozy bathrooms, try a campsite in France!!!
Aunt Sue, It sounds like you had a wonderful time, Austin is such a cutey....
I agree it is amaing the way the world seems to change when you are holding a little hnd in your own...I know that being with the children, walking down the street or through the Mall with them, people always seemed nicer to me...
Strange how that is..mind you alot of people alos thought that they were my children....Go figure.
