I Did It !!
Today I went to the Board office and asked the receptionist, " How do I get my name on the substitute list?"
she: " As a teacher?"
"Yes"
"Just fill out this form"-------- very simple procedure, address, professional number, years of experience--
After completing the nondescript form, I ask, "Is there any way I can have my name NOT on the list?"
She looked at me very strangely---- so I tried to explain that since my name begins with A, I would be at the top of the list, and would probably get a lot of early morning calls----
"I only want to substitute at Meadowfields---- and I can just let the principal know"
"Well there is a space to fill in which schools you would prefer."
"Yeah, but they'll call me anyway, because it gets desperate!"
Well, I don't know, I'll have to ask so and so, I'll just write a little note on it"
As I left, I saw her making a notation on the form, probably said-- don't call this twit !!!!!
P.S. If you see this book anywhere, will you pick it up for me? Just in case !! I'll reimburse you!!!

That's funny. I know of a guy who plays in a band, but he says their main goal is NOT to play at bookings...
Kind of similar - you sign up as a sub, but don't want to get too many calls - hehehe
I'll keep my eyes open...maybe I'll get lucky

Hahahaha...That's like - 'Ah, yes..I'd like to work part-time please, but, only when I'm in the mood, and never early in the morning, and no late night shifts either...otherwise, call me anytime!' hehehehehe
Hi,
that was funy..you really don't need hte book but if you go to Coles and they don't have it you can get them to order you in a copy.
Love you lots...

Okay, Sue, you got me. :)
I have to confess - I have kept up with reading the blogs but haven't taken the time to respond.
I have been busy, but never too busy to take a peek, just to see what my dear friends are up to...
you are always able to evoke emotions - sometimes a chuckle, sometimes a little sadness, but always something. You are a prolific, profound writer. you should have been the math and LA teacher!
Am so glad to hear that you are subbing. It is a whole different world, and not a bad one at all. Never thought that I could do it.
So, if I can, you certainly can!
Take care.

Thanks everyone, and ljlc, who does Russell get for all his union duties-- I was thinking I'd like that , I started my career teaching French, and I would know most of those kids.
Did you know we're only allowed to sub. for 69 days?? That number makes me a little nervous!!!
Sorry if I gave the impression that the receptionist was rude-- she was very nice, and we had other conversation about her nieces and nephews that I had taught and retirement in general---
